Fan-Shaped Flower Vase, Attributed to Adrianus Kocx, De Grieksche A (The Greek A) factory, Delft, circa 1690. Object number: D2618 © Aronson Delftware

Graceful in outline and bold in conception, this fan-shaped flower vase from circa 1690, stands among the most imaginative forms created in Delftware.

The sweeping, heart-shaped body supports a rhythmic row of spouts, each intended for a single stem, transforming the vessel into a carefully structured floral display. Conceived during a period when exotic blooms were cultivated with passion and precision, such vases reflect both horticultural enthusiasm and technical refinement. The sculptural salamander-shaped handles introduce movement and vitality, while the finely painted decoration in blue highlights the assured craftsmanship of the Delft factories.
