This bouquet displays more than ten types of flowers and teems with insects. The flowers have different blooming periods, so such a bouquet would be difficult to compose in reality. Ruysch knew this very well. Through her extensive study of living and prepared flowers, she was able to paint these lively bouquets with astonishing precision. During her lifetime, she was one of the most renowned painters of flower still lifes in Europe.
