An Egyptian green glazed composition statuette of a baboon. Late Period, 26th-30th Dynasties, circa 664-332 B.C.

Finely moulded with arched brow, and striated details of the fur around the head, with slender eyes and a pronounced snout with incised side whiskers, seated in a squatting position with paws resting on the bent knees, with phallus between the feet, the tail curling to the right of the body, the cape incised with feather-shaped fur details, the lower part of the body with stippled surface, 2½in (6.5cm), some restoration, mounted. Sold for £5,760
