Pendant with Saint George slaying the dragon, Germany, late 16th century. Gold, enamel, diamonds ten, six rubies, emerald, seven pearls. H 8.2 cm, W 5.1 cm; Green Vault, VIII 265 © Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden
The pendant with St. George slaying the dragon, who stood for the victory of good over evil, was considered a commitment to the Christian faith. Decorated as a three-dimensional plastic trinket intrigued by the subtly worked out anatomy and the incredibly dynamic nature of the group. It is one of the most important artistic treasures of the Green Vault.
