Footnote: Whilst there has been much academic debate concerning the correct chronology for month cups, it has been suggested that the design of the rose bush (yuegui) is associated with the seventh month; see R. Scott, For the Imperial Court. Qing Porcelain from the Percival David Foundation of Chinese Art, London, 1997, Catalogue no.23 where a complete set is illustrated.
