Decorated in Augsburg in gilding, possibly by Bartholomäus Seuter, with chinoiserie scenes on each side of the beakers and on a scrollwork bracket on the saucers, against a burnished gilt ground, edged with alternating sun and foliate motifs on the saucers, and dots on the beakers, moulded with lobed borders embellished in gilding, the cup interiors and handles gilt, the beakers: 8cm high; the saucers: 12.9cm diam, incised / to footrim of one saucer (some wear to gilding on saucers and to rims, small restored rim chip and a tiny chip to reverse rim of one saucer (4). Estimate: £6,000 - 8,000 / €7,300 - 9,700 / US$ 9,500 - 13,000

NotesA saucer from the same service is published by S. Ducret, Meissner Porzellan bemalt in Augsburg (1971), vol. I, ill. 283, where the decoration is tentatively attributed to Bartholomäus Seuter. Another two-handled beaker and saucer from the same service is in the Museo Gianetti, Saronno (published by A. d'Agliano/ L. Melegati, I Fragili Lussi (2001), no. 27).
